Quilt Along for 2015

For 2015 my quilting guild has chosen the Knoxville MQG's 2012 modern block of the month. It is a fun quilt with 12 different modern designs with new techniques.

I decided this quilt will be for Little i. He requested it to be red, orange and black.

The January block is called Woven and has a partial seam. For my first try, it is crooked, but you can't tell in the photo. :)

December 42 Quilts Modern Monday Finish

I finally finished the last 6 squares I planned to do from this set. I think they are more busy than modern.

Block 20: Shoo  fly - not very wonky.

Block 23: Chinese coins - the link on the site went to a different square so I did my own thing.

Block 36: 4H - far too busy to notice the "H"s.

Block 45: Monument - it looked like a birthday cake to me so I made mine look like one.

Block 57: Piano keys - colorful.

Block 26: The Cross - a very simple design.

Now I have enough squares to complete 4 new placements.

November Bee Block - Flying Geese at The Gates

Tatiana's bee block was inspired by the Christo's 2005 installation in Central Park - the gates. The fabric chosen is from the Cotton & Steel line. It is dynamic yet minimalist. My block assignment was the flying geese pattern, whatever style I'd liked. Tatiana gave several links for inspiration. Although I never saw the installation in person I have seen many photos which gave me the impression the wings on the gates fluttered in a circular motion. I wanted my block to a similar feel that the geese we spinning free.

The block is 16 1/2 inches. The fabric is very pretty with metallic printing which makes it shimmer. My photos are too bright to see the full effect.

Vogue 2383 - Mr. Clara's Jacket

It is Nutcracker season again. When dancing daughters move on so do the dancing Dads. A new Mr. Clara is making his dancing debut and new jacket is required. He has a lovely scarlet Christmas velvet jacket.

Lady Faye, the dress form, is making a shabby show since the jacket is a size 48 and she is not.

Mr. Clara's fitting was a success as he said he would be able to his big scene, the fake foot trip with an armload of packages, with ease.

Here it is flat on the ground. I should have taken a close up of the button. It was an ugly blue one from my Grandma's stash painted gold with Christmas magic.

October Quilt Bee Block - Liberated Star

For October's Bee challenge Lee choose a Liberated Star block using Kaffe Fasset scraps and solid black. The black makes the bright Kaffe Fasset print pop out. The "challenge" of this block is that the star points vary. The direction she gave were very easy to follow. With varying size points which way is up? One block - 4 looks.
