Outlander Swap

A small group of women in the guild are reading/watching the Outlander series. An Outlander swap was organized. We answered a series of questions on our preferences. We were to make a large item and small item and could be some extras (most probably in the food category - since chocolate/tea/coffee were questions :) ).

My Outlander likes orange and simple modern. I decided to make a table runner. I chose this Celtic knot pattern, which is not exactly Scottish, but the closest thing I could find since I need to work from a pattern.

She mentioned several fabric lines she liked. I chose Zen Chic's Filmstrip fabric line, since it had orange and enough coordinating colors for the knots. The runner is 4 knots long. It is 12 x 48 inches.

I machine quilted it using echo stitches.

Big R loved the colors and suggested we keep it! Ha-ha. She likes this style fabric. I said maybe you like it because the fabric line is "filmstrip" and you are studying film.

My smaller item is a scissor fob. It is probably something Claire would have on her scissors if she wasn't always using them to cut bloody bandages.

The pattern is from an Inspirations magazine. The fob cube is 7/8 of an inch. The paper scissors are traced from my small snipping scissors.

The bouillons are either one or two threads. I was very happy to find matching embroidery floss to make the tassel and cord.

For something extra: Walker thistle shortbread (with their own version of Jamie and Claire in the corner) and Godiva chocolate. I also found some hazelnut hot chocolate - for those late nights reading these lo-o-o-ng volumes.

Quilt Along 2015 - November - Diamonds

Oops! I confused my colors when paper piecing and my orange triangle in the middle row should really be red and the outside triangles should all be orange.

Improv Pineapple Floor Mat

We were in need of a new floor mat for our computer chair. The current mat was not large enough and the chair rolled off. I wanted to try the pineapple pattern. I used several work shirts whose collars had frayed for the fabric.

Instead of making blocks of  equal sizes I thought I'd try my hand at an improv modern layout.

The mat is 44" x 44 ". I machine quilted the front and back pieces together and did a machine binding. Conclusion: sewing pineapple blocks is a bit boring.

Sew Along 2015 - October - Starburst

Cute idea, but I didn't realize my blacks would be side by side in the end.
